Artificial neural networks are based on data layers of collective knowledge. But they are not only partners in the quest for optimization; they also seem to create other, unconventional realities. Their hallucinations challenge perceptions and offer glimpses into the deep sea of data through which they navigate.
In Dreaming (of You), hallucinations arise from the processing of scanned physical spaces. These digitized environments are connected to neural networks, which generate artifacts based on the hallucinations. The project investigates how these networks can recognize, reconstruct, or (re-)code old and new mythologies in relation to such spaces. The data-based knowledge created through these dreams opens up possibilities for other narrative connections and cultural structures.
